Missing spotify.desktop

Missing spotify.desktop

I just installed spotify on my Mac running Ubuntu. I tried to change the scale factor in the spotify.desktop file located in /usr/share/applications, but it didn't exist. I created it, added the regular stuff, and rebooted. The scale didn't change, and the icon is a gray question mark rather than the spotify icon indicated in the desktop file. This leads me to believe that the file isn't being loaded, which is weird because spotify works......

I had the same problem, I found the spotify.desktop file in my ~/.local/share/applications folder instead.  I ended up just downloading the icon and editing the file (with sudo) so the Icon line points to the downloaded image.  For some reason the spotify.desktop file they give you uses the defualt application icon rather than the actual spotify icon.
