Hello Spotify users,
This thread is for the community who have been selected to test the new web player design.
I've noticed that there is a great change probably hinting at spotify getting rid of some features and adding new ones. It is very important that the users of spotify give feedback to these new changes.
FEATURES TO CONSIDER:
- Save feature needs to be added. The save feature needs to be added back on albums and singles.
- Interactive profiles. Profiles arent interactive anymore. I seen the riddence of public playlists on profiles and what artists users are listening too. It would be nice to actually improve the profiles picture and make contacting and connecting to other users easy.
- Make accessibility to playlists and customization to playlist easier. Because of the new bulky UI it is hard to find what you're looking for.
- Make the UI less bulky-- the colors are nice, the design is nice, but it would be easier if it was efficient. The UI is too bulky, like the songs get overcrowded when listening to an album or playlist.
Any more feedback, ideas, questions, and/or comments are welcomed. If you are a visitor, it is nice to see your feedback as you will be using this UI or help develop it. 🙂
THE NEW WEBPLAYER:

Solved! Go to Solution.
On the old webplayer, when you were searching through albums or songs, they popped up on the right side of the screen, but didn't take up the whole screen, and you could just click on the right to go away. It made browsing much more fluid, and I really miss that. Between a more awkward browsing experience and a clunky, oversized interface, I dislike the update enough that I've stopped using the webplayer altogether, and I'd love a way to go back to the old version. Very sad that I'm not able to use my favorite streaming site anymore.
Suggestion: Add the playlist description and last updated info to the Web Player.
That is really useful information that is in the mobile app but not the Web Player.
As if the new UI completely removing all functionality (as in play queue, browsing radio, Discover, all the parts that actually work) as well as looking like complete **bleep** (why do I have to click through fist sized album art to play a **bleep**ing song off an album) wasn't bad enough, I can't even play songs once I do get to them.
Web player is the only way I can listen to Spotify at work because network settings block me from the desktop app, so this sucks.
This is a pathetic, out of touch, and counterintuitive "upgrade" which does nothing but **bleep** off paying customers, haven't heard a single positive about the new UI.
Pull it together spotify.
Suggestion: add keyboard shortcuts.
I tried "shift+right", and it did not advance to the next song like in the old Web Player. You should make "?" display the list of keyboard shortcuts also.
I am no longer using spotify. After this update 90% of the time the songs just do not play. There's 503 errors and more.
I hope this new update was worth it, I've been a happy listener for over 3 years.
Not good!
I want to listen to spotify radio! I want to find the people I follow! I want to see more than 6 songs listed on my screen! Again, I want to listen to spotify radio!!
This new web player is not chromebook friendly!! Please change it back!
The new UI is a disaster. The spaces are WAY to big, so you need to scroll unnecessarily much (this also applies to the forum!). Big spaces like that make no sense (especially on a Desktop PC). The GUI's structure isn't really intuitive as well. It would make more sense if the menu buttons "Recommended", "Genres & Moods", "Discover" etc. would be in the left bar. This would make the UI more clear. And why can't I close the search bar anymore? I also miss the Radio stations.
Well, a really nice feature would be a listening history that shows not just played albums, but also tracks (like Deezer does).
I think it's great, it's missing features though like ADD TO QUEUE! That's key. Honestly looks great imo.
If the old player was Windows 7, then this is Windows 8.1. Feels like a phone app and isn't intuative at all for mouse/ keyboard use. Stripped features, huge icons, lots of unecessary mouse movements required... it just takes longer to navigate anywhere. Please learn from Microsoft's mistake and tackle function first before making things look pretty.
I Love the new Web Player! Much simpler and easier to use in my opinion.
But I do have a few requests worth mentioning.
And for any Chromebook users who are forced to use the Web Player (Unless you installed linux.) I would love to see:
These are all my suggestions, and things I would like to see in 2017 out of Spotify and the new Web Player.
Thank You!
I don't hate the new design, but I have 2 issues that I would like to see fixed:
The new UI is horrilbe. I can't share to twitter or tumblr anymore. The old UI searched easier and it was possible to find some new music just by checking the search results. Bad idea! I want the old UI back. FYI I used to work for Amazon and the whole search layout resembles a search setup on the amazon employee side of their web service.
This webplayer is just so incredibly atrocious to the point that I believe Spotify is torpedoing their own webplayer so more people will use their desktop client where it is harder to block ads.
With the old one you could easily make it a little window for another monitor where you could actually see the album art. The new one has made it impossible to scroll through music efficiently because the spacing and font is so much bigger. Instead of a list of 30 songs you can easily see at once, you can maybe see 10 now on a 1920x1080 monitor. Absolutely unacceptable. This new browser is a huge waste of space even for those with an extra monitor. Why would you put the player controls on the bottom? You realize that people organize their windows on a desktop from left to right and not shove them on top of each other right? I am absolutely livid. I was so upset I actually bothered to sign up here to actually complain in the hopes that this change gets reverted.
Where is the queue?
Why do the Albums and Artists tabs not show anything on there?
What happened to the hotkeys?
Exactly what Frolo14 wrote! I want the queue back. Or give me the opportunity to switch between the old and the new Design.
I feel as thou the player is much slower now and sometimes just deosn't respond.
I also feel like there's less information about the music I am listening too.
Also it seems the player doesn't automatically play one album after the other like it used to.
I do not like the changes made.
Thank you!!!
This new UI is TERRIBLE on web player. I'm using a Chromebox so there's no app and the new UI has hardly any features from the old UI. Spotify have until the end of the week to fix this **bleep** before I jump ship!
Below is the workaround I'm using to avoid this catastrophe. Please fire your Web UI dev!
To revert to previous UI just download this addon UAControl. UAControl let you change user agent per site.
Install and restart Firefox to activate the addon + change the Spotify-site to Googlebot =
Add site: "play.spotify.com"
Action > Custom: "Googlebot/2.1; + http://www.google.com/bot.html" (see also here).
Update the Spotify-page - done!
(Chrome users can use User-Agent Switcher for Chrome.)
I've just noticed that even the technical quality is totally garbage. Sometimes, when I want to play a song, it just doesn't play. Sometimes it helps to delete the cookies, but that can't be a solution really.
The new design is a prime example for today's web design trends: Bulky, confusing design and unreliable.
Boy. The feedback on this one... Apple Maps probably had a better launch.
But hey, since when would you bother about the feedback from your own community?
First things first. I can't play music on the web player anymore. Which seems like a pretty low bar for you to pass. But fail.
Most of the times it at least loads the interface and let's me browse but fails to start any music when I try to. Example: go to playlist, push play, wait ~30 minutes before it finds a song it can play.
But today it hasn't even loaded the player for me.
Secondly. Queue. Really!? You thought it was a feature no one used? Well take a look trought this thread and think again. Same goes for last.fm and other functions dropped.
Thirdly. Design. Sure, space is nice. It's essential in most design how you use whitespace. But you also have to adapt to the purpose of your product. If the purpose is for people to browse long playlists and player profiles then one aim is to minimize scrolling and making overlooking easier. In this aspect the new design fails miserably.
Finally. Get of your high horses for once and face reality. The new design is a failure and your aim to strip your own service of it's most appreciated features is a darn foolish plan. Think again and listen to the community.
Also: remove connect. Peace!
