Redistribute Spotify on Linux Distributions

Dear Spotify Team,

my name is NicoHood and I am an official ArchLinux Trusted User. This means I maintain some packages in the official [community] repository [1]. I am also able to move packages from the ArchLinux User Repository (AUR)[2] into [community] if the packages are popular enough (>10 votes).

As you can imagine spotify is really popular on ArchLinux with more than 1100 votes on AUR[3]. Me and the community would love to have spotify in our official repositories to provide our users a simpler channel of installing Spotify on ArchLinux.

The problem we face is that the Terms of Use forbid us to redistribute Spotify. We'd require an official statement that ArchLinux is allowed to package Spotify in its repositories.

I've already contacted Brendan Marsh (Product Owner, Desktop) about this topic via email without any further response. It would be nice if you can give the linux community a better channel for installing Spotify on non-debian systems.

Furthermore we then can cooperate and optimize spotify for ArchLinux (e.g. using more shared libraries, providing gpg signed tarballs and https downloads etc).

Me and the community hope to get some positive feedback. Thanks for taking the time. Please upvote this post if you also with to natively install Spotify on ArchLinux and other Linux Systems.

So, after one year and 4 months since ‎2017-10-30 while watching for this topic I could conclude that my opinion about Spotify's opinion regarding to this topic is:

• We don't give a ***** about your dirty open source
• ***** off from here, we will ignore any suggestions
• Again, do you pay or not, Spotify don't give any **** about you and your opinion. You are not their target audience.

this would be fantastic!  TBH, just a clear redistribution policy would be great & would allow the distros that care to integrate Spotify to do so.

This would theoretically allow the Chromium Embedded Framework dependency to be dynamically-linked rather than statically-linked, also.  Dynamic linking could theoretically bring down RAM usage significantly when it's running alongside another CEF-based product like Steam, which could help (Spotify is currently using about as much RAM as the rest of my system, including Firefox, put together)

I think it's a little ridiculous to not have any official response - not even an acknowledgement.

Please consider reviewing this request. There are people offering to get your product into more people's hands for free, and will do the work to maintain the relevant distributions, and all you need to do is spend a few hours of your time discussing this with your legal department.
