Spotify Client Eating CPU Cycles

Spotify Client Eating CPU Cycles

The Spotify client on my PC is hitting my 4 core CPU extremely hard. Sometimes the CPU utilisation is up to 75% (ie 3 whole CPUs). The fan starts whirring like mad. This makes Spotify almost unusable. I am running the Windows client on Linux under Wine. However, a little Googling shows quickly that many Windows (and other) users are getting the same problem. Is there a fix available?

Hi there welcome to the community 🙂

Have you tried doing a full reinstallation of the app?

There is also a beta version available for linux. You can learn more about it here:

The full re-installation doesn't help (actually it can make things worse, because older versions of the software did not have this problem so badly). The Linux beta is now rather old and doesn't run on Debian. I did manage to get it running on an old Mint installation, but don't use Mint on my main computer.
