Spotify app not starting since the latest update

Spotify app not starting since the latest update

Fedora 41

My Question or Issue

Flatpak app stopped working since the latest update. All Fedora updates are installed. The app starts - but no window comes up and no error is displayed.

Just fyi, the Flatpak isn't supported by Spotify. They only release a .deb package and a Snap (which is irritating, but it's just the way it is).

I'm having the same issue though. I don't think it's the Flatpak itself that's the problem though; Are you running KDE by any chance?

Easiest solution is probably installing the official Snap package though. I have a desktop running f41 and a laptop on 42, and they're both still running the Flatpak. On my media centre PC running Fedora 42 however, it's doing the same thing you described (no launch, no error), so I enabled snapd and tried the Snap, and it works (as much as I prefer Flatpak to Snap, but it is what it is 🤷).

Hold up. Try manually deleting the flatpak user data for the spotify app. Got mine to launch again after removing the leftover directories, then reinstalling it. May not be much of a solution if the problem repeats itself and it requires wiping the user data for every launch, but worth a try.

rm -r ~/.var/app/com.spotify.Client/config/spotify ~/.var/app/com.spotify.Client/cache/spotify
