Spotify app reboots Linux mint 18.2 every few minutes.

Hi all,

I do have the Spotify 1.0.64.407 app on my Linux Mint 18.2 Xfce 64 bit environment.

It is a great app. However it reboots my 10 year old Sony Vaio laptop every few minutes.

I had exactly the same issue while using the Chrome browser. In Chrome I switched off hardware acceleration which solved the Chrome reboot issue.

However the Spotify 1.0.64.407 app does not have the option to switch off hardware acceleration.

Any idea how to solve this problem?

Solution: Instead of recommended driver Nvidia-340 I intalled the older Nvidia-304 driver. This seems to have solved my problem.

Currently running Linux mint Xfce 18.3 with the latest version of Spotify from the repositories.

The real solution for old hardware:

Install Spotify 0.9.17.8

Install libgcrypt11 alongside libgcrypt20

Switch OFF HW

And you'r ready to go
