My Question or Issue

I'm getting this error when I play some songs on my Spotify desktop app on Ubuntu. The same songs play without any errors on my phone. I have tried deleting all the local_files.bnk(after closing the Spotify app) in the Spotify folder, but that hasn't resolved the problem. I've also tried reinstalling the app but that hasn't helped either. Can you guys help?

I have the same problem on debian just immediately after startup.

Then when I launch pavucontrol, alsamixer or any source of sound (for example firefox youtube video) my spotify playback suddenly works.

Any suggestions how to fix the problem?

It seems to me that spotify can't activate alsa by itself and needs another application to do it first.

LOL, what I have found:

you get "Spotify can't play this right now" on Ubuntu?

1. take your phone, start the same problematic song on your phone Spotify app. It runs fine, right?

2. Now, choose your desktop as a playback device in Spotify app. It plays fine now, right? but only until you catch this bug again (then you can repeat these two annoying steps again)

Said that, it is clearly a Spotify bug. It's not an issue with your Linux.

Quite a shame for this bug not being fixed in 5 (five!) years.
