Spotify desktop app on Ubuntu plays commercials even when music is stopped

I just installed the Spotify desktop app from snap on Ubuntu 23.10 and was listening to music. I paused playback so I could join some work meetings. During the meetings, suddenly a commercial started blasting out of my desktop speakers and it was audible by folks on the meeting.

At first I wasn't sure what was going on, but then it happened during a second meeting and I was able to see the app was showing an ad popup and again, playing a commercial, even though playback was still paused so I could attend work meetings.

I am fine with commercials, but randomly playing them when I have paused play is very bad.
