Spotify lagging and freezing

Spotify lagging and freezing

OS: Ubuntu 18.04.4

Spotify sometimes (about a third of the cases) takes minutes to start, loading playlist takes usually about 30 or 40 s and quite often results in the application becoming irresponsive. Favourite artists list almost always fails to load. Sometimes any action makes the application freeze.

How do I solve this problem? Thanks for advice.

Hey  @dezhik

Is your Spotify a snap or apt?
I would suggest trying out the other one, if reinstalling doesn't do the trick either. 🙂

I tried both, there seems to be no difference.

I am experiencing this issue on the snap version too. I'm using Ubuntu 24.04 LTS. When scrolling up and down on any of my playlists or on the main page it drops frames as I'm scrolling. It's only Spotify that drops frames when scrolling anywhere in the User Interface. Everything else on the system when scrolling in other apps like the settings app, there is no drop in frames, UI scrolls smoothly everywhere else on the system. I am also using a low end laptop. Screenshots of specs attached. I do not know how to fix this on my end as it seems to be a problem with the Spotify snap app itself. I will try the deb version of Spotify. But I prefer to use snap packages because of the sandbox feature that was added to this version of Ubuntu
