I can reproduce the behavior by opening the Spotify client on both my computer and smartphone. Then I switch between these two devices using the smartphone:

- Play a track on the smartphone

- Switch playback to the computer from the smartphone

- Switch playback back to the smartphone

- Wait 5 seconds

- Switch playback back to the computer
