[Ubuntu 17.10] Local files don't play

I know this issue has been present in previous versions but none of the fixes work. Tried:

- installing restricted extras and necessary codecs

- clearing settings

- reinstalling

Streaming works fine, playing local files with other players also works fine. No errors reported in the terminal.

I was having this same issue. I tried everything and none of the other fixes worked. What ended up working for me was uninstalling spotify from snap by running

snap remove spotify

and then reinstalling it with the debian package as described on this page: https://www.spotify.com/us/download/linux/
