"Can't play this right now" when playing a song (weird)

My Question or Issue

Alright guys, this is a bit of a weird one. So if I try to play Spotify without first opening youtube or some other way of starting an audio stream, the song refuses to play with the message "Can't play this right now." Funny enough, if I try to play Spotify first then a youtube video, neither one will play and they will both infinitely load! This happens across the web client (on Firefox), snap store installed Spotify, and an older version (1.1.55.498.gf9a83c60) installed manually. This issue only happens on my Linux install, I used to have Windows on this computer and it worked flawlessly. If anyone has any ideas, please, hit me with em!

interestingly, the issue seems to have been fixed with an update to Ubuntu in the interim
