My Question or Issue

I play my music using open.spotify.com. Since I pinned it in my browser, ads don't play, which means nothing else plays, either. I have to refresh the browser to get it working again.

Hi there @MaximusMe,

Thank you for posting in the Community. Let's take a closer look into this.

To start with, can you clear your cache and cookies?

If the issue remains, can you try from a different browser to see if the issue persists?

Let us know how it goes so that we can continue to assist you if you need us to 🙂

Take care!

Live, love, laugh and listen to music 🙂

Hey Jeremy, thanks for getting back to me.

Unpinning open.spotify.com does not change the behaviour, nor did clearing the browser cache. Every time it gets to an ad, everything stops. The "playhead" (not sure if that's the right name for the little bar that shows progress through a track? showing my age sorry!) continues, as if the ad is playing, but it's not. And since it's an ad, it cannot be skipped and I have to refresh the browser.

Works perfectly using Chrome, so it appears to be a "Safari" issue.

Cheers,

MaximusMe

Hey @MaximusMe,

Thanks for the update.

As a next step, can you please check your hosts file for any entries containing Spotify? Here's how to do this:

  1. Open Finder and, in Finder’s menu bar select Go > Go to Folder
  2. In the box, type the following location /private/etc/hosts and press return
  3. A new Finder window will open and your Mac’s hosts file will be selected
  4. Click and drag it out of the Finder window and drop it on your desktop
  5. To open it, simply double-click and it will display the file’s contents in TextEdit
  6. Check for any entries with Spotify in the address
  7. If you do find any lines with Spotify, please remove them
  8. Save your changes and restart Spotify

Please keep us posted.

Cheers!

Hey Yordan, thanks for the assist. No Spotify entries in the hosts file at all.

Hey @MaximusMe,

Thanks for your reply and for the info shared 🙂

In this case, we suggest you make sure there's no adblockers on your Safari browser.

On another note, would you mind restarting your router? Let us know how it goes and if you see any difference.

Lastly, keep in mind you can always download the desktop app on your computer from our web page here, so you can enjoy a better experience from the app.

Keep us in the loop!
