All content unavailable at random (Hardware acceleration?)

All content unavailable at random (Hardware acceleration?)

Plan: Premium

Country: Norway

Device: Macbook Pro (16" 2019 - Intel)

Operating System: macOS

Almost every day Spotify suddenly states that all content (music and podcasts) is unavailable. Restart of app does not work. Solution is to disable and enable hardware acceleration, content is then available again.

What is weird is that if i doubleclick on a playlist the content starts to play even though the contents of the playlists are greyed out and unavailable.

Maybe this has to do with the 'Automatic graphics switching' in macOS as the solution is what it is?

Thanks in advance.

Hey there @walde01,

Thanks for reaching out about this here in the Community.

First up, it's well worth running a clean reinstall to get rid of any cached files that might be causing trouble. This one is more thorough than the usual one.

If this doesn't do the trick, we recommend trying with a different network, for example creating a hotspot on your phone and using that - if that's possible.

Lastly, we'd recommend you try clearing your hosts file on your PC following these steps.

Keep us posted on how it goes.

Ok, so I did the reinstall as instructed, I had no host entries in regards to spotify.
Currently installing again, will update the post soon.
Thank you

Status:

After clean install after I logged in, all content was unavailable and i got a message telling med to disable offline mode, which was not enabled.

Tried to enable/disable offline mode, state was not changed.

I then tried to disable HW acceleration, content is still unavailable.

Enable HW acceleration and the content is available again.

So in short; the clean reinstall did not change anything unfortunately.

Hey @walde01,

Thanks for keeping us posted and for checking if Hardware acceleration and Offline mode had any effect.

Sorry to hear that the clean reinstall had no effect. In order to get to the bottom of this, can you check two things:

  1. If your playlists have all songs available on another device, like a phone or the Web Player.
  2. Ask a friend/ family member to log in with their account on your Mac and check if they see the same unavailable content. If that's not possible, you can create a free account to test this out.

We'll be on the lookout for your reply.

Hi,
I'll create a new free account and do some test the next days and get back to you, thanks.

Update:

In the web player and iphone everything works as expected.

I have the same issue when trying to use another account on my mac unfortunately..

Hi there @walde01,

Thank you for your reply and confirmation.

Can you let us know if you're using a VPN or if you have any sort of managed network scenario in place?

We'll keep an eye out for your reply.

Take care 🙂
