I'm having the exact same issue since this evening - every time I attempt opening Spotify it crashes!
Operating system affected: Windows 7 64 bit
Version of spotify: The latest one online, I just uninstalled and redownloaded it, no change occured.
Country: Australia

I have found opening a playlist from the pinned spotify icon with keep the program running, but search still does not work.

All to do to fix it:
Wait for the "Discover" page to load, then start using!
This can get annoying, but it stops the annoying mysterious crash!

Seems to have fixed itself. What I did: nothing.
I was having this issue that started this morning. Spotify came up loaded and imediately shut down. Tried reboot, Windows 7, to no avail. Logged on to spotify's site. While logged in I tried to restart Spotify again only this time I retyped my user name rather than using the default that looked correct. Typed my password and presto, it worked. Hope this helps.
