Desktop App crashing

Desktop App crashing

Plan: Premium

Country: USA

Device

- MacBook Air (Retina, 13-inch, 2019)

- macOS Catalina, Version 10.15.5

My Question or Issue

The mac desktop app crashes when I try to start it. I did a clean install and it still crashes. I see the app window briefly (1/4 second) open, then it closes again. Started either Thursday or Friday last week - I've been using Web Player since then.

App version that is installed: 1.1.37.690.g8f3b16fc

same thing here - has been for 1 week+ for me.

Have already tried fresh install to no avail

I'm having the same issue. Did a fresh install and did nothing for me. App still crashing continually.

This just started happening to me this morning.

Same here, it has been happening for a few days.
A new fresh install doesn't solve the issue.

Hey @smallchou @PrivateProfile @greenwizard88 @Zudy @-aw-

When you say you did a clean or fresh reinstall of Spotify did you also clean up and remove all the files associated with the Spotify mac app? Just reinstalling the app doesn't clear out the corrupted app files.

Try a clean reinstall of Spotify to see if this fixes the problem:

Advanced method: (requires digging through folders in Finder)
https://support.spotify.com/article/reinstallation-of-spotify/

Easy method:
Download this free app cleaner. It's super easy. Download button is on the right side. Do not click on any ads on the website.

http://freemacsoft.net/appcleaner/

When you open up the app, click the icon in the top right corner to switch to search mode and search for Spotify and it will automatically find and delete all files on your computer related to Spotify.

I use it all the time and it's a really great tool. If you ever decide to uninstall an app, the best way is to use this tool.

After that, download and reinstall Spotify.

Note: after you reinstall make sure to go into the Spotify settings and redo your preferences

Thank you, @MattSuda, this helped me solve my problem. Manually removing Caches from my User Library did not help.

@dekaru

Glad to hear! You're welcome

Mine too, and its the same model as the one above, the MacBook Air 2020.

It didn't help in my case but thanks for trying to help out.
I wanted to emphasize the issue is still opened.
Also I believe it may be related to last macOS update.

Thanks for keeping us in the loop @PrivateProfile!

We'll look further into this. Does your app crash directly when you open it or when you start playing music?

Does it make a difference when you have offline mode turned on/off?

Lastly, could you try turning off Hardware acceleration? Just click on Spotify menu at the top of the app and remove the tick.

We'll be keeping an eye out for your update!
