My Question or Issue

With the latest update to the Mac desktop client, the search bar was moved from being constantly present at the top to a pinned position in the scroll bar. This is clearly an error which needs fixing as being click to activate is far less user friendly. This should be a constant open text field as it was previously.

I'm not so sure it was removed in error and was actually removed for strategic reasons. Removing the search bar makes it trickier for users to search for what they want and gives a bigger opportunity for them to discovered promoted content which is what drives the apps revenue.

I'm not particularly fond of this new UI update.

Live, love, laugh and listen to music 🙂

The cynic in me believes this was a strategic decision to force people to visit certain places in the app. The optimist is leaning toward Hanlon's razor, and something like:

A/B testing showed that those who did not have a search bar spent more time (and more clicks) in the app. Thus, the search bar was removed to increase user activity.

In any case, this was the worst design update I've seen since I got Spotify back in 2013.

Hey @fuzzee,

Thanks for reaching out.
