My Question or Issue

For a long while, it was working fine, but then I got the dreaded "Can't play the current song" blue message, so I logged out and restarted my mac and tried to log back in but now I get the dreaded "A firewall may be blocking, error code auth:16"

Please help! It's not my filter since I can post on this site now.

Hey @Cloud1! Welcome to the Spotify Community. ^^

That doesn't look cool.

Have you tried reinstalling your app? If not here's a step by step tutorial.

That usually does the trick.

Let me know if that helps, thanks! ^^

Peace

I'll see what happens. 🙂

Tried the Clean Reinstall but it hasn't changed a bit.

What do I do now, Nico? That didn't do anything at all.

I did it again, just to be sure. Nothing!

Does anyone know what the "auth" in auth:16 means?

Hey there @Cloud1,

Thanks for searching for the answer you need here!

We recommend that you check your host file for Spotify entries. This can be done using the following steps:

  1. Open Finder and, in Finder’s menu bar, select Go > Go to Folder. In the box, type the following location: /private/etc/hosts and press return
  2. A new Finder window will open and your Mac’s hosts file will be selected. Click and drag it out of the Finder window and drop it on your desktop
  3. To open it, simply double-click and it will display the file’s contents in TextEdit
  4. Check for any entries with Spotify in the address
  5. If you do find any lines with Spotify, please remove them
  6. Save your changes and restart Spotify

You should also disable any ad-blockers and add Spotify as an exception to your firewall and antivirus software.

Hope this helps. Let us know how you get on.

Have a great day!
