How to upgrade from Premium to Premium family on itunes

I am trying to upgrade my account from Premium to Premium family. My current subscription is on itunes. Seems as if only way to do this through is to cancel current membership and then upgrade back to premium family. Surely there has to be another way that is more customer friendly than that?

I have just over 3 weeks left of current subscription and assume if I cancel and then subscribe to prem family I will essentially be double charged for remaining 3+ weeks of current subscription? Again not a good customer experience.

Any input or thoughts much appreciated as maybe my thinking is wrong.
