Hi,
I have a very odd problem when trying to install the Spotify app on my Mac (I run Yosemite, but had the same issue with Maverics before).
- I download the installation file "spotifyinstaller.zip" from the Spotify website and unzip it
- I double click on it (now named "install spotify.app) - a small window appears notifying "download spotify"
- after some time at a small log in window opens where I have to enter the spotify account information
- the app opens but is not transfered to the application folder, so when I close and reopen the computer the program is lost
- no administrator password is required at any time
When I try the terminal for the installation, the following error message appears:
2014-10-29 22:38:30.148 Spotify[759:34694] Internals of CFAllocator not known; out-of-memory failures via CFAllocator will not result in termination. http://crbug.com/45650

Hope somebody is able to help

Hi there welcome to the community.
Did you ever had a working client on your Desktop? If so, could you try to follow these steps (it might be worthy to check if you hadn't so you don't have any spotiTrash on your Desktop.

no, I never had a working client and the file com.spotify.client therefore does not exist on my computer
Is this the full log or just a part of the log?. Deadlock detected (Thread: gui seems not the full part.

Just did some research. Could you follow these steps and print the output here?
- Open terminal
- Go to your your spotify installer directory by typing:
cd "/Users/MyUser/Downloads/Install Spotify.app/Contents/MacOS"
make sure to replace MyUser with your user
- Type "./Install Spotify" (with quotes)
Now the installer will run and log it's output to the console.

Hi,
You should run the command with admin rights (sudo):
- Open terminal
- Go to your your spotify installer directory by typing:
cd "/Users/MyUser/Downloads/Install Spotify.app/Contents/MacOS"
make sure to replace MyUser with your user
- Type sudo "./Install Spotify"
- Type in admin passw
- Ready Freddy
it won't open on my mac either!
I installed it and reinstalled twice but every time I put my username and password in it wont let me log in (these details are correct I have changed, checked etc many times)
HELP please!
Ditton on this error. I was simply trying to the update. It failed, cannot move to application folder. I deleted the files and folders ad directed in Help and also in this thread. Now I have no spotify at all. I cleared out my trash think it wouldn't be truly out of the way unless I did. Will have to reinstall from time machine if I want to use spotify. Doesn't seem to be any tech support for paying members.
I ran the commands through the console and it gave a more descriptive error:
"Spotify couldn’t be copied to "Applications" because an item with the same name already exists."
So I went into the applications folder through finder and deleted a broken shortcut to Spotify.app. Problem solved
