My Question or Issue

I recently updated to macOS Monterey and after connecting through bluetooth to my wireless speaker, Spotify functions through the mac’s speakers instead. I tested the speakers with my iphone and the app works just fine like that. The problem is with the mac. It is connected but spotify blasts through the macs speakers. Might be a bug and easy fix. Please look into it.

Hey @Jay124,

Thanks for the post.

You can check the default playback device selected on your Mac. Make sure that the speaker is selected and not the laptops's internal speakers.

Let us know if that helps.

Although this "did work", it's a workaround. Previously when you hit the "Connect to a device" button, it would show all networked devices (wifi LAN as well as Bluetooth). Now it's not showing any bluetooth devices anymore. I feel like this is still a bug. It's not showing my airpods, or my bluetooth speaker. Just "Listening On This Computer" and my google chromecast devices.

Hi @bphtwo,

Thank you for your reply.

We've investigated this from our side and can confirm that that's the expected behavior at the moment. The device picker won't show any Bluetooth devices that aren't already connected to the phone/computer, only WIFI and casting devices.

In this case, we recommend searching in our Ideas board to see if someone else has already suggested an idea to implement the feature as you had it previously. If there aren't any ideas about it, you can add your own so others can then vote for it or add to the conversation to show their support. You can find the steps to submit a new idea in this article.

On Mac there is a Bluetooth icon in the top menu bar and when you click on it it will show you the list of Bluetooth headphones and speakers you can connect to that you've previously paired. The Connect menu in the Spotify desktop app doesn't show Bluetooth devices, you have to use the Mac's Bluetooth menu for that.
