Media Keys won't control Spotify on Mac anymore

My Question or Issue

For the past 6 years I've been able to control Spotify with both my macbook keyboard and the bluetooth apple keyboard I use. Within the last month or so suddenly I can't control Spotify with the media keys on either keyboard (forward, back and play/pause) I've read some other posts on here with people having similar issues and I've tried the solutions for all of them but none have worked. I even uninstalled the whole app and reinstalled the newest version and nothing has changed. Did something happen with one of the recent updates to the app?

Hey there,

Seems like you're using an outdated version of macOS. Can you please try updating your Mac to macOS Mojave via the Mac App Store and update me whether it's alright then?
