No option to change profile picture

I'm not able to upload a profile picture, and I've tried looking at the threads on here, but I'm not getting any "change" option when hovering over my icon on the desktop app. I have a mac. How do I upload a profile picture? I don't have a Facebook account but I've heard I don't need one to set a picture.
