Great idea, @kmikiy, thank you for your work! Downloaded the app but I'm not too familiar with these things and haven't gotten it to work... Could you explain to me how to run the install file, please? A gif/quick vid would be awesome.

After you download the zip
- Unarchive it
- Control-click SpotMenu icon, then choose Open from the shortcut menu.  
- Click Open. 

If you want, then you can move SpotMenu to your Applications folder

Oh I see, github (where the source code is hosted) got you confused, you downloaded the source code.

The latest releases can be downloaded from here https://github.com/kmikiy/SpotMenu/releases by the way.
SpotMenu also includes an option to automatically check for updates
