Only playing songs I've played before

Sometimes my Spotify does this thing where it only plays songs I'm familiar with, and when I try and play a song I've bever heard before it doesn't play anything.

If it's relevant I had one month of premium which expired last night, but I don't think it is relevant because this same problem has happened to me before when I didn't have premium.

Also, I can't access the web player or embeded players on my mac laptop, the same device I wrote about above, but on my Motorola phone spotify is working fine.
