Problems with OS X Spotify player and Sonos Connectivity

Hi, I'm running the following:

 

OS X El Capitan 10.11.6

Spotify 1.0.91.183.g259b84fa

 

For some reason, I'm unable to successfully connect to my Sonos system (pair of Play:1s). I've tried uninstalling Spotify and re-installing the app; unplugging and resetting the Play:1s, and resetting the Sonos controller/decoupling the Sonos controller from the Play:1s.

 

In the Spotify controller, I can see the sonos system and select the speakers (i.e., the green banner appears at the bottom of the app), but no sound is produced by the sonos speakers. The sonos controller will allow spotify to play, but I want to use the spotify app.

 

Any Suggestions?

 

Also, as of late I've been experiencing more issues with the Sonos controller causing the oft-described "Playback has been paused because Spotify is being used somewhere else" message.

 

In short, is there an update that has caused significant issues with the latest Spotify app and the Play:1s?
