Something is definitely up with the shuffle functionality. It's absolutely broken.
I have several playlists, all with hundreds of songs, and when I hit shuffle it seems like I just hear the same few dozens songs. If I have several Tom Waits albums on a playlist, you better bet I will just hear "Ol 55" again and again whenever Tom comes on.
I dont understand why there isn't a simple "Shuffle tracks" option. It's obviously easy to implement. I pay monthly, as do most of us here, and we should care about the product about which we pay for and make this issue known and resolved.
Stranger ---- Thank you for your solution here. I have tried it and will set it up. Am I correct in assuming that once I've randomized this playlist through your process, that I would turn Spotify's shuffle icon to OFF ? Thanks
Its true I have over 5000 tracks on my favourites playlist.,They do not come up randomly, some keep coming like a porn star. I have resorted to deleting the most repeated tracks. It helps but Jeez its irritating.
It's not a problem for me to skip the song that's been playing not so long ago but the fact that I don't get to hear some songs for ages or at all !That'swhat's really frustrating. I only hear some tunes when I remember about them and play them manually myself. Someone better work on the shuffle algorythm in spotify or I will start thinking about other music services.
The repeat function doesnt affect whether or not a song will repeat in the shuffle mode, it actually toggles whether the playlist will repeat once the last song has been played! took me forever to figure this out
I got a reply to my email. This is what I was told:
"I'm very sorry you are having problems with the shuffle. As the shuffle is random this could attribute for the same artists playing but obviously if it is always happening then it does sound like there is a problem.
I've read the thread and tried my own shuffle and it does seem that not interfering with Spotify after putting it onto play keeps it random. There could be more to this though so I've put it across to our development team as a potential bug. Thanks for bringing it to my attention and please be assured that your feedback has been heard."
what I see is that I have added a lot of songs, that I starred, and I am using starrted "shuffle" I have since added mors albums, but it doesn't seem to have added them to the shuffle "starred" list. I don't turn it off often, usually just stop it.
ideally it would be great to have 2,000 songs and it would randomly pick one .
other than that, the system works great and I am very happy with it.
I agree, got like 1000 songs and shuffle is not working like it should. I figured I just had bad luck, but after 6 months of listening to music almost every singel day I figured the problem probably was not bad luck.
Sent a request to spotify about the problem, hope other do too, because its a REALLY stupid problem which almost certanly could be easly fixed. I can for the life of me figure out how you screw up something like that with good software engineers working on it. Its pretty easy and basic stuff. SO many services rely on random being somewhat random, and spotify can't do it?
