Something Went Wrong...try reloading the page

Hello, since Friday the 13 I have been unable to access Spotify in both the web player and laptop application. I have tried all these solutions that I found in other posts but nothing has worked. I restarted my laptop and nothing. I reinstalled the app and nothing. I updated my operating system to macOS Big Sur and nothing. I logout from all devices from the Spotify website and logged back in and nothing. I cleared my caches and nothing. I am starting to get really frustrated :(( Is there a phone number I can call to get support?

Plan: Free

Country: USA

Device: (Macbook Pro late 2017)

Operating System: macOS Big Sur

Hi there @12151647157,

Thank you for getting back in touch with us.

Can you confirm if you followed these steps when you reinstalled the app?

Another useful step to take is to remove any hosts files. You can do that by following the steps bellow:

  1. Open Finder and, in Finder’s menu bar, select Go > Go to Folder. In the box, type the following location: /private/etc/hosts and press return
  2. A new Finder window will open and your Mac’s hosts file will be selected. Click and drag it out of the Finder window and drop it on your desktop
  3. To open it, simply double-click and it will display the file’s contents in TextEdit
  4. Check for any entries with Spotify in the address
  5. If you do find any lines with Spotify, please remove them
  6. Save your changes and restart Spotify

Keep us posted 🙂

Cheers!

Hi there @12151647157,

Thank you for your post here in the Community. We're happy to help.

In this case we suggest that you restart your router to see if the issue persist and if it does, can you try with another internet connection?

If that doesn't do the trick, can you let us know if you experience the same thing if you sign in from another device?

We'll keep an eye out for your reply.

Take care!

Hello, sorry for the late response. I did try using a different internet connection and it still did not want to load. The web players are working now both on safari and chrome, however, not in the application. I don't experience that problem when I open Spotify on my phone.

IT FINALLY WORKED! I followed the steps to reinstall so I'm guessing before I did them wrong.
Thank you so much!

Hey @komalllllb,

Thanks for posting here 🙂

It's a good idea to give the steps mentioned in the thread a go to check if anything changes.

In case the issue persists, we'd suggest you also try with another account. Does it make a difference?

I remove all in Hosts and still have this issue.

Hi there @nykulin,

Thank you for your reply in this thread and for reaching out to the Community.

Can you perform a clean reinstall of the app? This will make sure there's no old cache files causing this.

We also suggest that you restart your router to see if the issue persist.

Keep us posted 🙂

Hey @mckinley,

Thanks for the post.

Did you already try a clean reinstall? If not follow this Guide.

Also, check whether you get the error on both WiFi and mobile data (You can create a hotspot from your phone and connect the computer to it).

Keep us posted on how you get on.

If removing spotify related rows from host doesn't resolve the issue, one other thing worth trying.

Remove Spotify from Applications

Open finder - Go - Go to folder

Open ~/Library/Application Support/

Delete Spotify folder

(This folders stays by default, even if application removed)

In my case, i set a proxy a few week ago in the UI, but that proxy is defunct now, thus there's is no way to startup the app, because it cannot connect to this proxy.

Hi @valko2,

Thanks for reaching out to the Community!

You could try removing the files below as they hold information about the account you're currently logged in to.

  1. Open Finder on your Mac and click Go > Library (if you don't have hidden folders enabled, press the option key first and it should appear).
  2. Go to Application Support > Spotify > Users.
  3. Here you should see a folder with your username. Delete it and go back to Application Support > Spotify.
  4. Here you'll find a file called prefs. Simply delete the file.
  5. Restart the Spotify app.

Let us know how it goes.

Cheers!

Hi,

I am having the same issue. I've followed the solution instructions. Unfortuntately, my hosts file does not have "spotify" entry.

Is there another way to solve this problem? I've also already tried:

  • restarting my laptop
  • uninstalling the mac desktop app and reinstalling
  • uninstalling/reinstalling, and restarting my laptop.

Nothing seems to work. And I can't think of what else to do to get the mac desktop app to work.
