Spotify Connect Broken: Randomly Pausing (Yamaha AVR, Gramofon, Panasonic, Samsung and others...)

Spotify Connect Broken: Randomly Pausing (Yamaha AVR, Gramofon, Panasonic, Samsung and others...)

Edited 8 May 2018 (original post below).

On ~3rd May Spotify Connect started randomly pausing (in my case on Yamaha hardware) on a range of devices - rendering their Spotify capbility unusuable.

We've since established that this is a problem affecting lots of devices from lots of manufacturers: which all points to something in the Spotify platform itself being at fault.

We do seem to be getting somewhere with recent reports that Spotify support and manufacturers are looking into this....

What you can do right now:

-Continue to tweet Spotify support if you're experiencing this - let them know the scale of the problem.

-Please continue to add updates to this thread.

-Tag your affected device in your post to associate it with this thread.

-Contact your device manufacturer to let them know.

Hi,

For the last few days Spotify connect has started randomly pausing when playing on my Yamaha RX-V483 AV receiver. Firrmware version 1.28 and using Spotify connect from OS X, app version 1.0.77.338.g758ebd78 or iOS 8.4.51.696.

Playback on the app itself is fine. The Yamaha unit has a wired LAN connection, and I can observe from the traffic monitor on my router that it just stops streaming audio at random. It has been flawless forever until ~3 May.

On twitter @spotifycares advised me to try logging out and in of all devices, and they also 'reset my offline cache' which didn't help.

Others on twitter seem to be having similar issues, e.g: https://twitter.com/hydroxyde/status/992415130511118337

https://twitter.com/SpotifyCares/status/992696323064418305

The latest response from @spotifycares is that my amplifier 'no longer supports spotify connect'. It's a bit ridiculous if this is the case. I've received no notice from Spotify or Yamaha.

I'd be interested in hearing from other who are experiencing similar problems.

This needs taking up with Spotify/Yamaha if support has been silently dropped!

Hooorray! All works very well with GGMM M3, with no updates on spearkers...

Just found the post. I have the same problems with spotify randomly pauses.  Panasonicall5, all3, all8.

Panasonic support states that they never heard of the problem...

Same problem here, with Yamaha rx-v679 which is not detected by Spotify connect. Everything is up to date, I tried with a laptop, with my phone, thorugh wifi or ethernet, I tried resetting my Yamaha, I tried the DHCP trick found on the forums... Nothing works, it's very frustrating.

I still have the same problem for long now, in both LG TV and Google ChromeCast Audio, that I bought  only to play Spotify!

Same issue on Pioneer SC-LX59 (and Fritz!Box 7490). Everything else works on the AVR and Spotify works on all other devices in the same network. Sometimes works for hours, sometimes Pauses every few seconds, apparently regardless of traffic.

Contacted Pioneer/Onkyo (German support) and all their suggestions did nothing.

Here the suggestions from German support (in German and pretty long, sorry), in case it helps anyone else:

App:
Ggf. Receiver resetten.
https://www.pcwelt.de/a/geraete-ueber-bluetooth-verbinden,3051531
Spotify Connect:

Have had this problem for as long, as I had started using Spotify connect, which was around August last year. It got a lot worse recently though. Now it stops around 5 times per song...

Using my Yamaha RX-V781, iPad and PC.

Also stops playing while listening the "normal" way, but only like once every other week.

Yep  same thing happens to me on my Yamaha rx-a3070. Yamaha firmware is up to date and Spotify app is up to date. I get no error messages but Spotify connect stops randomly. This has been happening since May. Pretty much renders Spotify connect useless for me.

Also tried testing three of my family members phones. Spotify connect stops randomly on all.

Hey Spotify, can you try and fix this issue for the entire community that uses Spotify connect?

We're still having issues with our Philips SW700M/05

Spotify will stop randomly in the middle of a song, maybe every five minutes or so.

We've tried restarting and factory re-setting the speakers, and restarting the Wi-Fi network.

Same issue here! Yamaha RX-V475 receiver (latest firmware) with Spotify Connects:

  • Playback consistently stops exactly after first song is finished
  • Playback can be continued by SKIPPING or pressing PLAY again (any connected device)
  • Some times playlist or album stops again after second song is finished

This behaviour happens with all my three devices since some months now. There is no error message how so ever:

  • iPhone 5S
  • iPhone 7 (even after complete device reset)
  • iPad 5

Hope to get a fix real soon...

I have Spotify Connect on a Goodmans Heritage ii DAB radio but when I try to connect from iPhone it plays for a bit then stops and starts - all the while playing on my iPhone... anyone know anything about this?

I have 5 panasonic devices from the all share system all suddenly started randomly pauseing im thinking of getting rid of spotify preimium. Seems silly paying if im having to kepp pressing play. It spoils parties. Plesae sort it out..

My GGMM M3 now stops playing in the middle of a song, exactly as described in the original post. It was working fine yesterday.

Now happening on Yamaha R-N602, Firmware 1.30.

Streaming on Smartphone and MacBook works fine.

Any chance to debug this problem?

Problem solved. An interfering TimeCapsule caused the problem. Strange that only the receiver was affected.

I have the exact same issue with my B&W Zeppelin Wireless. It just pauses randomly when using Spotify Connect and sometimes the queue empties itself... No problem with AirPlay.

I'm having same connection problem with Yamaha WXAD-10. I reconnected it to my WLAN and it started to update (firmware I guess). Since that connection has been broken after some time (using Spotify Premium). Same problems with net radio. I'm not sure whether this is a Spotify problem.

Same problem with Bluesound Node 2i.

This is a terrible problem affecting multipe premium users and devices.  In my case I use Alexa and find that Spotify plays for a few minutes, then the audio stops.  However it's not pausing Spotify in my case.  Spotify keeps playing, but the audio stops completely on my speakers.  The problem is fixed (but only temporarily) by me pressing pause/play on the Spotify app.

Like others, this but with the Spotify app essentially renders my premium subscription useless.  I'll keep my Premium account a bit longer, but if this isn't resolved, I'll have to look for alternative music streaming services that work with my home WiFi speakers.

I also have this problem on an Argon Inet3+. Spotify works fine on iphone and ipad, but when I try to use the Argon unit it just freezes and says ”press play”, since a few days back. I will try a factory reset but it is pretty annoying. If this is not resolved I may well consider discontinuing my premium subscription and starting using apple music instead...

I'll join the list of affected Yamaha users - my RX-V481

Pausing after a few seconds.... when tracks selected from Samsung Galaxy Note 9 - all OK when selected from Samsung Galaxy Tab S4!?!
