Spotify Mac steals focus every 6 seconds

Spotify (free version, Mac Yosemite) has become impossible to use because it pops up to the foreground and interrupts whatever I'm doing every. six. seconds.

Doesn't have anything to do with ads or what song is playing, doesn't matter whether it's maximized, minimized, etc. Doesn't matter what other program I'm trying to work in. Didn't help to uninstall and reinstall it. No matter what I do, it just constantly steals focus and is incredibly frustrating.

Has anyone else had this problem? Any other suggestions for trying to fix it?
