My Question or Issue

Whenever I Quit (Command + Q) Spotify on my computer, the window closes, but the app keeps running in the dock and stops responding. At the same time, all internet connection stops working and the computer doesn't even react to a shut down command through the top bar menu. I need to do a hard restart by holding the power button for 5 seconds.

 

I have already reinstalled the app, while deleting all the associated caches and directories through AppCleaner too.

Thank you for reaching out to the Community!

 

We suggest you start by running a clean reinstall with these steps. There's a chance your computer has leftover data or corrupted cache, by running a clean reinstall those can be completely removed and fix most common issues.

 

After reinstalling it, go to the app's Settings and toggle off the option "Enable hardware acceleration". Then restart your PC and check if the same issue happens.

Thanks for getting back to us.

 

Sorry to hear the issue is back again.

 

Could you let us know if your Internet connection cuts if you quit other apps? This issue is a bit odd, as Spotify should have no influence on your internet connections.

 

It would be great if you can record a video of the issue and share it with your next reply, so we can have a look at how things look on your end. You can upload it as an attachment or if it's too big, you can send us a link to an external service like YouTube.

 

Also, let's us know your current app version.

Hi, it's quite weird, but after it happened one more time, it stopped... I'll let you know if the issue returns...

Okay, it happened again. I was listening to Spotify, then I quit the app, it stopped responding while remaining active in the dock, had to force quit, internet went down. I tried capturing video, but the recording app (like many others) stopped working without internet connection. Shuting the computer down in a normal way didn't work, had to to hard reset using the power button. This only happens when quitting the Spotify app, not others.

Thanks for the reply and the info you've shared.

 

Could you try connecting to another network, like a mobile hotspot WiFi from your phone and test if this issue persists when quitting Spotify.

 

This way we can figure out if the issue is in any way network related.

 

Something else you can check is whether this happens when your laptop is plugged in or not.

 

If the issue still continues, please let us know your current exact Spotify app version.
