Same here - since the latest update the programs freezes completely in the middle of a song, at random moments, without anything much else going on: and totally kills Windows. After a short while the crash reboots the machine.
I did a clean install of Windows 7 x64 Ultimate yesterday - only a few things installed right now, and it still happens.
(I juuuuuust got a subscription, so am not a happy puppy right now)
The Windows message after rebooting was:

Today the Spotify desktop app started freezing every time I placed my cursor in the search box and hit a key on my keyboard. This was not happening last night. I tried rebooting, no effect.
I did a complete uninstall and reinstall, and now the same thing is happening on the login dialog. I place my cursor in the username box, and as soon as I hit a key, it goes to "Not Responding". I can't even get into the app now.
OS is Win7 Home Premium 64-bit. Anyone have any ideas?
EDIT: I just remembered, the search was working fine earlier today. The very last thing I did before it started doing this is I tried searching for a user by typing spotify:user:[username]. It came up with nothing. After that the app started freezing when I tried to type anything in the search box. Now after three reinstalls (including reboots and even manual removal of all Spotify-related registry entries), I can't even log in. The login dialog freezes the second I hit a key. This really sucks.
It's not my account, because the app is working fine on my other computer.

@RonMoses - Any other changes such as Windows updates in the past 24 hours on that computer?

Nothing that would coincide with this event. I installed a Bluetooth USB dongle two days ago, but Spotify worked fine mutliple times since then. Windows updated the .net framework, but again the app ran fine afterwards. The only thing I can connect it to is running that user search.

I managed to get back into the app by pasting my credentials into the login dialog via right-click. The app works fine so long as I don't hit any keys on my keyboard. The second I do - whether it's in the search box, or navigation, or just hitting a key - the app freezes. I haven't got a clue what I should be looking at.
Oh, and just to be sure it wasn't my keyboard acting funny, I brought up Windows' On-Screen Keyboard and typed using my mouse. Same thing, the app froze the instant I clicked on any key.
Can you try grabbing the console output and see if any errors are being logged by Spotify?
This is something I have never seen before!
Just out of interest, what type of keyboard do you have?

Problem solved! I noticed another app freezing when I used the keyboard, so after much troubleshooting I did a repair install of Windows and Spotify is now working without a hitch.
BIG UPDATE: The problem returned. I finally figured out that my new Plugable USB Bluetooth adapter was the culprit. I uninstalled the device from Device Manager (including the driver), unplugged it and rebooted, and the problem is gone. So if anyone notices this problem and happens to have a USB Bluetooth adapter, which is unlikely I know but still, try uninstalling it and see what happens.

Definitely a strange issue - thanks for sharing your solution!
Strange indeed. And I've since narrowed it down to Broadcom's driver v12, which claims to be the 64-bit driver. Their v6 driver (which Windows installs automatically) appears to co-exist just fine with Spotify. So don't upgrade your drivers, kids! 😉

Spotify app is freezing like crazy with OS X Mavericks on iMac and MacBook Air. I have latest versions of all software. We're paying for this, can't hear the music. C'mon, Spotify.
GUI keeps freezing for the first hours(!!!) after application start.
Spotify absolutely consumes processing power (see image below, and notice that the other, quite processor intense applications, are nowhere near spotify in CPU). This snapshot was taken about an hour after starting spotify. GUI was, as usual, quite slow and unresponsive. This happens every day, both @home and @work. It used to be better, but since 0.8 (I think) this started to happen.

Not that large @work, about 3700 files
@home, yes, about 40000 files, but problem is the same both @work and @home
So the latest client (0.98) freezes with the infamous spinning ball of death on MacOS 10.9.2 when using either a SOCKS4 or SOCKS5 proxy on the localhost as an SSH tunnel. The web client also fails to connect when behind an HTTPS proxy.
Any thoughts on when your software will function from behind a proxy? Pandora works fine, and the spotify client used to work fine. I recently removed my old client and installed the newest, and I don't think I'm going to go through the effort to re-install the previous version. I'll listen to Pandora in the meantime.
At least the iPhone client still works. Please don't break that too.
