Spotify keeps downloading same app version on Mac

Can one of you genuises explain why my Spotify, unprompted, downloads the Spotify App version for Apple from Spotify's website unprompted, even though I am already running the latest version? This seems to happen only when I open the program... It's not not every time, but it's frequent and it's annoying. Thanks.

Could you share a screen recording of it while happening?

In macOS Mojave you get a buil in screen recorder if you hit SHIFT + COMMAND + 5 in your keyboard.
