Spotify scans my hdd for audio files

Plan: Premium

Country: DE

Device: MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports)

Operating System: macOS Big Sur 11.2.3 (20D91)

My Question or Issue:

After opening Spotify (1.1.56.595.g2d2da0de) it keeps scanning my hdd for audio files to build an index.

I noticed a lot of disc io operations and started to investigate.

iosnoop showed that Spotify was the culprit.

As I've got gigabytes worth of audio samples the io usage was immense.

In my Spotify apps settings option "show local files" was turned off and never has been turned on.

I closed Spotify, reopened and the behaviour was the same.

I turned on "show local files" and turned it of again, restarted Spotify - still the same behaviour.

However I found a workaround:

Activate "show local files" and deactivate every entry under "show songs from" (namely "Downloads" and "My Music").

This stopped Spotify from reading every audio file on startup.

Even if I fixed the issue for myself I still think it's unexpected behaviour if "show local files" is turned off.

Please fix.

Hey @5c2d2c08312819b

Thanks for reaching out to us 🙂

Could you let us know if you notice anything new after performing a clean reinstall of the app? This can be helpful to get rid of any corrupted files that might be causing issues.

If this doesn't do the trick, could you send a video or some screenshots where we can see the issue? This will help us investigate further.

Keep us posted!
