Spotify stops playing after songs with big duration

After the upgrade to MacOSX 10.13.4 I am facing the following issue with the spotify client. When I am in a playlist or an album that has a song with a large duration (usually over 10 minutes) after playing the full song the player stops and doesn't continue to the next song. Also when this happens the touchbar intergration with spotify stops working (the controls work but they do not display as before) and if I press the next song button nothing happens. To resume playback I have to play explicitly though the app the next song. I tried reinstalling the app and clearing the cache but nothing changed. How can I fix this problem?

Can confirm this issue also occurs on Desktop Windows 10 (Spotify version 1.0.80.474.gef6b503e)
