Spotify upgrade message shows every time i restart; won't install upgrade

I get a blue ribbon at the top of my Spotify desktop app that says:

"Like to install the latest version of Spotify? Just restart Spotify to upgrade."

I click the link to upgrade and restart Spotify and the app closes and re-opens as one would expect, but the blue ribbon appears again asking me to restart spotify.

This has been going on for months. Any help?

I recommend reinstalling to see if that fixes things for you. IF you still get the problem after a reinstall, please post your OS and spotify versions, thanks.

Nope, that didn't work unfortunately.

I'm running Mac OSX 10.9 (although should mention this was happening on 10.8 / Mountain Lion, too)

Spotify version 0.9.4.185.g.7545a404
