Spotify won't play anything after the first song i choose

Once I load the spotify app on my mac I can pick one song to play and it plays correctly.  If i want to pick another song though, the audio of the new song starts playing but nothing else, like the album art, the length bar on the bottom, or even the green outline changes.  If I try to change songs again absolutely nothing works at all and spotify basically doesn't work once the second song is over.  I've tried restarting and it hasn't worked so any help would be appreciated, since I am now basically paying $10 a month for nothing
