why do the songs on spotify have a '+' next to them where the 'star' should be? when i click on them , a 'tick' appears. no stars at all.....thoughts? i have just opened a new premiuim account after closing my previous account as i shut my facebook account .

I'm not entirely sure but you might have a new version that Spotify is currently beta testing.

The "+" symbol is part of the new collection feature which as said above is currently in beta. With this new feature, the special starred function has been removed and starred is now just a playlist. You can still star things by going to Right Click > Add To > Starred.
