Trouble connecting to Chromecast Audio from Mac Desktop client

Dear community,

I recently bought a Chromecast Audio. Really a nice solution to revive 'old' speakers by adding wifi playback.

However, I do have one problem - the Chromecast audio is not visible in the 'connect' tab of the Mac desktop client. The only way I can control playback via Mac is if I first start playback on my iPhone and select the Chromecast. After I do this, the player shows up just fine on my Mac. Unfortunately, the chromecast disappears from the conenct tab on my Mac as soon as I stop music playback, and the only way to reselect the Chromecast is by the Spotify app on my iPhone.

Is there any way to resolve this issue?

- the Chromecast is properly set up

- all devices are connected to the same wifi network

Thanks for reading,

There is no way to resolve this, and it has nothing to do with Chromecast. You cannot start playback on any other device with the desktop app, and Spotify is refusing to address the problem even though people have been complaining about it for years now. I don't want to cancel Spotify, but now that this is the primary way I listen to digital music at home (starting Spotify on a Chromecast Audio), it is affecting me several times per day and is really starting to get annoying. Is Spotify actually going to fix this bug, or do we need to switch services?

Good news!

You can now find Chromecast in the connect "devices available" menu in the Spotify desktop app and browser web player. Now you can cast your music to Chromecast from the desktop app without having to use the iOS or Android app.

Make sure your Spotify desktop app is up to date
