Unable play on Google / Chromecast speaker from Desktop, works on iOS though

Solved!

Unable play on Google / Chromecast speaker from Desktop, works on iOS though

Hi there,

I am permanently unable to connect to Google Chromecast Audio from MacOS (Catalina 10.15.2, but also prior to that). I am using the most recent Spotify version.

I CAN see all of my speakers from my mobile device though (iOS, most recent).

Both devices are connected to the same Wifi.

Symptom:

  • All Google Cast devices are not listed in desktop app nor in the web player app (via Chrome browser).
  • All Google Cast devices are properly listed in the mobile app.
  • Restarting of App and/or Computer (MacBook Pro Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015) did not help. I also tried two different machines.
  • Connecting to a speaker via the mobile app on iOS first, I am able to see the speaker listed in desktop as well. So in general it works, but I cannot see the speakers on Desktop without switching to them from the mobile device first.
  • Premium user from Germany

This is a permanent problem. Please help. Thanks.

After contacting Spotify Support directly:

Turned out, it's a feature not a bug.

Google Chromecast Audio devices are only available from Android or iOS devices, NOT from MacOS.

Disappointing but true.

Is ANYONE FROM SPOTIFY ever answering support questions regularly or just on occasion?
