What happened to the cache limit setting on Mac desktop player?

In the desktop player for Mac we used to be able to set a limit for the size of the cache. Recently, opening up my Spotify player became incredibly slow so I was looking around my settings and noticed that the cache storage size limit option had been removed. I presume this was done in an app update, and my resulting increased cache was probably to blame for the app suddenly becoming painfully slow to use.

Does anyone have any insight as to why the cache limit option was removed, and what is the most practical way to speed up my app which is now almost unusable?
