Ads in the middle of songs

I was happily listening to Papa Roach scream their way through Last Resort when it was interupted by the tinkely piano of an advert started. This has been happening since the most recent spotify update.

Is this an intended new function, in which case I will bid spotify goodbye, or an unintended effect?

If you do not want to see the ads you can upgrade to Premium. Trust me it's worth the cost.

That is most certainly not a purposeful change! Could you first try a clean reinstallation of the Spotify app? Please let me know if you continue to experience the issue afterward.
