My Question or Issue

Extremely strange issue here; I was listening to Sea Power's album "Everything Was Forever" when the sound suddenly cut out in the middle of the track.  At first I assumed it was a connectivity glitch with my bluetooth headphones, but investigation showed that 1) the issue was happening reproducably in the exact same spots and 2) this album seems to be the only one affected (I listened to the entirety of the Dune soundtrack prior, and skipped around my music library after, with no issues).

Track 1 ("Scaring at the Sky") - plays fine
Track 2 ("Transmitter") - plays fine

Track 3 ("Two Fingers") - audio cuts out at 3:58

Track 4 ("Fire Escape in the Sea") - audio cuts out within 1 second of track start
Track 5 ("Doppelganger") - audio cuts out approximately 1 second after track start

Track 6 ("Fear Eats the Soul") - no audio whatsoever

Track 7 ("Folly") - plays fine
Track 8 ("Green Goddess") - audio cuts out within 1 second of track start

Track 9 ("Lakeland Echo") - audio cuts out within 1 second of track start

Track 10 ("We Only Want to Make You Happy") - audio cuts out within 1 second of track start

In all cases, as far as I can tell, the track continues "playing" (i.e. the progress bar keeps going), there's just no sound.

Thank you for reporting this issue to Customer Support, @Aquaesque!

@Aquaesque @quasireal @jamesandrewearl From my account using the desktop app, I see an option under this album to view “1 more release,” which takes me to a version of Everything Was Forever without playback issues.

Hi @Aquaesque,

Thanks for posting in the Spotify Community!

If an album on Spotify isn't playing correctly, you can report it by following the steps in this support article. There you’ll find a form for getting in touch with Customer Support, under “Broken or incorrect content"; and after you submit this form, the right Spotify teams will look into this issue.

Let me know if you have any other questions, and have a good day!

Update: I spoke to customer support and they gave me a test account to try playing the album with, which it worked on.  The issue seems to revolve around Track 3, which displays a different track length and listen count on my account than it does on the test account (my account: 5:40 and ~1k listens; test account: 3:32 and ~276k listens).  Track 3 is also where the issues I encountered began happening, as seen above.  I'm unsure as to the cause of this, only that reinstalling Spotify and clearing my cache don't seem to have fixed it.  It sounds like the issue is being escalated to tech support.

Hey! Having the exact same issue with the exact same tracks. Nothing's worked to fix it yet, so if you end up finding a solution, please update the thread 😄

Same issue here!  If anyone sorts it out ..let me know! 🙂

Thanks Trey!  Looks like I can do the same on mine.

As another update: I actually ran into exactly this same issue with exactly this same album on another streaming service.  Based on that, I think the issue is actually on the artist's end.  Near as I can tell, the hi-fi version of the tracks for the album are *very* badly messed up as laid out above, while the lo-fi version of the tracks are *mostly* okay with the exception of the beginning of Track 3 ("Two Fingers") being chopped off; what's a very nice, seamless transition between Track 2 and Track 3 in the hi-fi version is an extremely awkward musical smash cut in the lo-fi version.

Hi @Aquaesque,

Thank you for sharing this additional information!

Since as you mention, this album has the same issues on multiple platforms, it’s likely that the artist will need to fix it on their end.

I suggest contacting the artist (e.g. via social media) to let them know about this issue; hopefully they’ll add a fixed version of the album to Spotify soon.

There is no longer a workaround for this - both versions of the album seem to have the same bug now. Apple Music does not seem to have the same problem.

Hey @sleepwalker87,

We tried reproducing this on this release of the album:

"spotify:album:57F1SCsLtRIZLBcA6g1Wlh"

Can you let us know what happens on your end when you:

  1. Copy and Paste the album URI into the search bar of the desktop app and press Enter.
  2. Start playback.
  3. Use the progress bar to click though to the 2nd half of a song in the album.
  4. Skip to next track and repeat step 3.

Does the audio still cut off or does it happen only when you leave playback to continue on its own?

The audio still cuts out. I should mention that this doesn't happen on every track. Tracks 1, 2, 3, and 7 play just fine.

Hi there @sleepwalker87,

Can you have someone log in with their account on your device - such as a friend or a family member to see if the issue persits?

We'll keep an eye out for your reply.
