My Question or Issue
Hi! I'm using Spotify on my laptop with Windows 10. Everything was just fine until when my close my laptop without shutting it down. When I reopen it Spotify stops working. All songs are shown grey and noticing me "This content is not avaliable!" Rebooting does solve this problem. But I don't want to do so each time reopening my laptop since it's time-consuming and kind of annoying. So is there any way to deal with this problem? Or is this an issue? I would appreciate it if you could help me out of this!
Thanks for asking. We would suggest you perform a clean install of the Spotify Desktop App. It tends to solve most of the issues easily. Head over here to know how to clean install.
Also, make sure that you are not using any VPN service because the content may not be available at the location you are using with the VPN. Keep us posted!
Throw a like my way or choose this as a solution if I helped.
Thanks for your reply. But I'm sorry it doesn't work. And new situation occurred. The App failed at all just after I finished the clean reinstall, performing the same problem, which is that all contents are unavaliable. But good news is that it might recover from the failure spotaneously. I have no idea what happened at all. Thanks again for you suggestion although the problem is still unsolved.
Hi @VincentSong,
Thank you for your reply!
In this case, we suggest you run a clean reinstall one more time, but make sure to download the app directly from the Microsoft Store.
If the issue persists, please make sure the Spotify app is not being blocked by your Firewall and Antivirus.
Let us know how this goes.
Thanks for your advice. Unfortunately I could not install the app from Microsoft store. The reason might be the region restriction since I live in China. Instead I download the app from the official site of spotify. I don't know if there is any difference. Is there any other way to figure this out? But thanks again for your reply.
I am having the same issue. If I dont use spotify for a while, all content becomes unavailable. I have installed multiple times from both the microsoft store and from the download link on the website. I have also checked and made sure that the firewall is not blocking spotify
Hi folks,
Thanks for the posts.
You can try checking your Hosts file for any entries containing Spotify and removing those. Follow this Guide 🙂
Let us know if that makes a difference.
Hi @Alex
Thanks a lot! I tried to edit my hosts file, but there isn't any term relating to spotify. Unfortunately this way doesn't work for me. Still thanks!
Exactly the same problem. Actually I found that if the computer was left to be 'sleeping', spotify could recover in a while after the computer woken up. But if it is in 'hibernation', spotify would not recover unless I reboot the computer. It seems to be really an issue since such problem happened not only to me.
Hey @VincentSong,
Thanks for keeping us in the loop here!
Sorry to hear the editing of host files didn't work out for you! Indeed this is an odd behavior, and we would like to investigate it some more with your help. Could we ask you for a short video of the situation, so we can take a closer look and advise you better. You can send a link to it or attach it using the Insert Video option in the post editor.
Also, can we confirm that you're not currently using a VPN service, as it was mentioned by @Amay earlier, this can hinder the performance of the app and can present issues with content availability as well.
Keep us posted, we'll be on the lookout for your reply.
