I did the same thing on my imac and it worked. It was the only one out of restarting, reinstalling, unclicking local files, changing crossfade settings etc.
I am having tje same issue no matter what device I use to play spotify on and I am a premium member. I am getting highly frustrated! Any other suggestions would help! Thank you for your support.

what does that mean crossfading songs ? I have the same problem, but I cannot find this option in the settings menu from spotify.
Try killing the application, firing up Task Manager, and killing the 'SpotifyWebHelper' process.
After doing this Spotify seems to work fine, at least for a few sessions.
