My Question or Issue
Hi
Whenever i click on a song to play on my Spotify, it doesn't play immediately. The time stays at 0:00, and sometimes the album cover of the song doesn't even show up. After 5-10 seconds, the song plays for a couple of seconds before stopping again, followed by a notification saying "can't play the current song"
I'm guessing it's some weird variation of a streaming problem, due to the album cover not loading, and how the song stops for awhile then plays again (i'm guessing it's loading, almost like a Youtube video, but way slower). When i rewind the song, it plays smoothly til the part where it last stops.
However, there is no problem with my computer connection or internet. My computer browser and internet works just fine, with zero signs of bad or interrupted connection in any way.
I have:
- Tried playing songs from my library, and songs i have not added (in the Browse section and other playlists)
- Turned off and on hardware acceleration
- Turned off high quality streaming
- Restarted spotify
- Signed in and out of my account
- Uninstalled and reinstalled spotify
Nothing works. Any form of help would be appreciated 🙂
Thank you

My Question or Issue:
Have expeirenced persistent troubles with the application on my office computer. Have read several similar looking threads but nothing quite matching so far.
Will be listening to music when the audio will abruptly stop
- Happens at seemingly random intervals
- Time bar will continue to progress
- Previous/next/pause buttons will often (but not always) become unresponsive
- Will get a blue banner saying "cannot play the current song"
- When the current track "ends" next track in play list will not play. Trying to play another one or using the Previous/next/pause buttons (when responsive) will change the current track but not progress the time bar.
To resume play, I will typically have to close and restart the application, though most of the time this will result in an application not responding message untill I go into the task manager and end any spotify processes at work - normally there will be three, with one taking up a large amount of CPU. Leaving them too it for a while can sometimes get it to work again but usually nothing will change.
To try and fix this I have tried:
- Re-installing (several times)
- Checking for updates (apparently up to date)
- Updating sound card drivers
- Enabling/disabling local files
- Removing extra devices
- Disabling Hardware acceleration
It should not be a connection issue as internet speed is generally quite fast and other workers in the office do not seem to have the same issues.
Has anyone else seen these kinds of problems and/or know of a solution?

My Question or Issue
I made a post about this earlier, but it appears to have been deleted and stricken from my posting history. Not impressed.
For a while now I have been having issues with the application on my office computer - Audio will randomly stop playing at inconsistent intervals.
Have read several simlar topics/posts but not seen anything quite the same, and no other solutions offered so far have helped.
- Will usually get a message saying "Current song cannot be played"
- Time bar continues moving without audio
- Next/previous/pause buttons can sometimes become unresponsive as well
- When current track "ends" it will not queue up next song. If I do so manually, the time bar will not move for the next song.
Normally to solve this I have to close the application and restart it, however most of the time this just gives me a spotify application not responding message. To get rid of this and re-open the program I have to go into the task manager and end all spotify processes present. Normally there are three of them, with one taking up a lot of processing.
To try and rectify this I have:
- Reinstalled the program (many times)
- Updated the program (current version)
- Enabled/disabled local files
- Removed all devices
- Enabled/disabled hardware acceleration
- Updated my sound drivers
Not a network issue as internet speed is fast and other workers in the office do not have this problem.

My Question or Issue
I have tried to play several different podcasts and songs and keep getting this error message: Spotify can't play this right now. How do I correct this or access the material I want to listen to? The most current issue has happened when trying to listen to Up and Vanished season 2.

My Question or Issue
I get an error: "Spotify can't play this right now. If you have the file on your computer you can import it." when I try to play any song from the desktop client.
There are several similar posts about this, but my issue differs in that all songs are unplayable. I have noticed the issue for the past few weeks, and have tried uninstalling spotify/rebooting/installing it again/rebooting/running, as well as closing spotify/clearing all local User files from appdata/running, and loging out/quitting/logging back in. Right now, I have a browser tab open with the web player, and use the desktop interface to play songs in the browser. All of my other clients work normally, as expected. I am using spoitfy 1.0.89.313.g34a58dea
The update today did not fix my issue, either.
I did notice today that I am able to play videos in playlists, such as the top item in "Rap Caviar" on the desktop, though there is no sound and Windows does not show spotify as an app that's playing any sound.
Thanks in advance!
I have a similar issue I constantly get Can't Play Current Track. Sometime the song (s) still play, other time no. Spotify Ver 1.0.89.313.g34a58dea. It is a Premium Account. This happens on 2 win 7 Pro desktops. Network speed is DL 91.34 Mbbs, UL 12.00. I have rebooted, turned off HW Acceleration off & on. I did all the things the originator of the post did. This started happening this past update. I am out of ideas and full of frustation.
If this is a known issue, what is the expected resolution time frame. If not any help and suggestions would be appreciated.
Hey @rockmaster43 and @paulthepoptart,
Is this only happening on your desktops? Have you tried logging in on other devices?
If possible, create another account here, and log in to see if the same issue occurs. If it does, get back to us with a screenshot and we'll take a closer look.
Thanks!
Hey @danzy,
Is this only happening on your desktop? Have you tried logging in on other devices?
If possible, try using another internet connection, and see if that helps.
Lastly, create another account here, and log in to see if the same issue occurs. If it does, get back to us with a screenshot and we'll take a closer look.
Thanks!

Description of problem
Spotify keeps scrolling through tracks in a split second, essentially playing them but skipping to the next track the second it's played. For files that are local, they just play without sound and by the time Spotify's had enough of going through songs it just says "Spotify can't play this right now". This has happened since the most recent update coincidentially as this did not happen in any previous updates.
I've attempted reinstalling Spotify numerous times, flicking between Hardware Acceleration on/off (this happens with it on or off, not with just one of the options), and also installing the latest Windows 10 updates.
This is unfortunately why I wish Spotify would allow us to roll back to older versions rather than 'forcing' you to update to the latest version whenever it detects you're using an older version. Especially when the latest update adds, improves or fixes things while it breaks the most essential part of its software for many people.
This is all happening for me as well. Fresh install of Spotify desktop from the Windows Store. Can play songs on web player and mobile app just fine but desktop shows "Spotify cannot play this right now. etc etc." Same as rockmaster43 and paulthepoptart. Very dissappointing to be paying for a silent service.
Hey there @youwitdaface,
Since this is happening only on the desktop client, let's try some other troubleshooting steps:
Let us know how that goes 🙂

Hi All,
I actually managed to solve it by temporarely changing network. After coming, I tried again, change playlist & everything worked well.
Hope it helps
Thx
Fanny
Hi,
I seem to be having similar issues, since the most recent update.

I don't see my friend feed, can't search any songs, and all the songs in my playlists are greyed out. If I double click on a song, it plays the first 5 seconds, and then stops, and says "Can't play current song" at the top of the screen, in the blue box.
I rolled back my installation to 1.0.85, and it worked fine, but this morning when opening it started autoupdating, and the problem reoccured.
I'm on my work computer, where I can open the webplayer, search for songs, but they won't play either.
I've tried detecting my proxy using chrome://net-internals/#proxy, which gave me a *.pac file. I found some server listed, tried passing that to Spotify, but that also did not solve the problem.
Could you help me solve this problem? Otherwise, I could also install the older spotify version, and somehow figure out a way to block autoupdate, but that does not seem like a very sustainable solution :-).
Regards,
Jan Hein
I will add spotify to another device and try it. I only use it on my desktops now. I have been extremely busy last few days.
When you say open another account, you mean a free version?
As with others it happened after latest update. I will stop the auto update by changing the extension of the update exe and go back a version as soon as I get some free time.
I will:
Download previous version.
Delete Spotify_new.exe and create a empty text document, rename it to Spotify_new.exe. Then change the attribute to Read-only.
Update: Due to the lack of response on this issue (aside from a message stating that my deleted topics had been unmarked as **bleep** and merged after I submitted a complaint) I have cancelled my premium subscription.
At this point even the ads are less intrusive and I can simply cannot justify paying for an interruption free product when I am still experiencing interruptions.
This is disappointing, as I have otherwise had no real gripes with the product. I am more than willing to wait for bug fixes if one is needed, or accept that there may be faults with my device if that proves to be the case (I have worked in technical support myself so understand that there can be problems not immediately apparent, fixable or within developer control), but as it stands there has been no aknowledgement or response for me to work with.

Issue
So for a few days now I have had the problem that the Windows 10 Spotify app simply would not play any songs. If I tried a radio station, it would immediately pop up the message "Spotify can't play this right now. If you have the file on your computer you can import it." If I tried playing a playlist, Spotify would go down the list of songs one by one attempting to play them for less than a second, then move on to next song. Playing an album resulted in the same problem as a playlist. Oddly enough, attempting to play a music video song, would play but the audio was horribly distorted.
I searched all over this site, reading solutions such as clearing the Spotify cache, reinstalling Spotify app, disabling hardware acceleration in the Spotify app, disabling local files. Reinstalling audio device drivers. I did everything short of reinstalling Windows since I had done a clean install of Windows less than a month ago and didn't want to bother with that just for Spotify. Switching to another music service would have, honestly, been more pleasant than having to reinstall all the software I use for development work, not to mention gaming, etc.
Solution
Normally I would post a solution in an existing topic, but anything I searched for already had the problem solved. This is a potential fix for those encountering the issue described above.
My Asus Maximus X Hero (WIFI) motherboard contains what Asus calls SupremeFX onboard audio hardware. This is essentially Realtek audio hardware with custom Asus software. In the SupremeFX audio settings, I had my speakers set to 5.1, as this matches my actual speaker setup. For some reason, Spotify will not work with that setting. Just due to dumb luck after reinstalling audio drivers, I switched the setting over to 7.1. Surprisingly, Spotify suddenly worked! To have the 7.1 match my 5.1, I then disable the Side pair speakers, leaving just Center, Subwoofer, and Rear pair enabled under Optional Speakers. This should essentially be 5.1. Technically it MAY not downmix the same as setting 5.1, but I am not sure on that.
TL;DR
Changing my speaker configuration from 5.1 to 7.1 allows spotify to play music on my system.
Hey all,
We'd like to find out if this is account related.
Do you have the option to try a different account on your device to see if you experience the same issue?
If you are using a Work PC, please get in touch with the system admin as they might have to take a look if Spotify has unrestricted access to the internet. Alternatively you could use the webplayer as that method usually works in a work environment.
Let us know what you can find. Looking forward to your reply.
Have a nice day,

Sorry, got busy. The same issues are still happening for me, but only on windows 10. I have iOS, Android, Windows 7 and Linux clients that all work normally under my account.
I created a new a account and tried to play music on my desktop, which did not fix anything.
Spotify 1.0.90.268.ga8a0ceb4
Windows 10 v 1803 build 17134.285
-- Edit --
In respect to the poster above who had driver issues, I am using USB speakers that use the built in USB audio drivers, and I have a Gigabyte mobo. Also happens when I set my monitor speakers as output through the nvidia drivers.
Hey everyone,
We can see that there's a newer version of the app available. We'd recommend trying a clean reinstall of the app to make sure you're on the latest version.
If the issue persists, please make sure to click the +VOTE button and leave a comment with the following details so we can get this reported to the right folks:
