There no X or way to close or stop a video on Spotify for Windows (64 bit) 1.2.64.408.g0a9b557c
Hey there @albanderv,
Thanks for posting here in the Community and welcome.
We hope you don't mind us moving your post as it fits better here in a thread.
In order for you to stop watching videos on the Now Playing View on the desktop app, you need to click the Switch to audio button to go back to the audio view. It looks like this:
If the song you're listening to has no video available, you won't see this button, you'll see the album art instead. By closing the Now Playing View in the desktop app, you'll also stop watching videos. You can do this by clicking on the Now playing view button at the bottom-right of the screen:
Keep in mind, this does not disable them entirely, because if you open the now playing view, you'll automatically watch videos for the tracks that have them available. The app will remember your selection, so if you change to audio it'll stay that way until you decide to switch to video again.
Now, if perhaps you're seeing an 8-second visual loop that shows instead of the album art, that'd be the Canvas. It appears in the Now Playing View instead of the album artwork. You can disable this feature by first clicking on your profile picture and then going to Settings. Once there, locate Display and under that, toggle the option Display short, looping visuals on tracks (Canvas) off.
If you're having issues with the Now playing view in the desktop app, it'd be awesome if you could send us a detailed description of what exactly is happening on your side.
We hope you found this helpful. Let us know if you need anything else.
It would be helpful, to not only post a picture of the button I am searching (because i can read), but to post a picture on the button and its location in the application. Or some instructions how to make the button appear. It is not true that if I switch away from the now playing view the video stops. Actually it continues in the corner and uses bandwith. Please help me because i really don't want to stream a 2k Video, while just listening to a podcast ๐ Best regards
Hey @Philekoos,
Thanks for reaching out and welcome to the Spotify Community!
I've attached a screen recording of how to find the Switch to audio button so that the video won't appear in the corner - the video isn't visible at all times on the screen recording probably due to the app I was using to make it, sorry about that! But as you mentioned, if you don't switch to audio before you navigate away from he Now Playing view, then the video will still be shown in the corner.
If I didn't understand you correctly and the recording isn't helpful, do let me know and I can have a closer look.
When it comes to video podcasts on desktop, it's currently not possible to disable them so if you want to only hear audio, you can use the app as a background.
Keep us posted.
The above answers do not address the issue for podcasts as pointed out by @Philekoos in their comment "Please help me because i really don't want to stream a 2k Video, while just listening to a podcast".
Whilst the video posted by @Dessi shows the way to disable video when playing a music video the "Switch to audio" button is not available when playing podcasts, despite it being possible to disable video when streaming via Spotify's mobile app.
I am using Spotify's macOS desktop app to play podcasts and would like to disable video to save bandwidth and because I prefer the cleaner, static cover art over a video stream. How can I do this?

For any product manager reading these forums:
I've been a huge fan of Spotify - and a subscriber - for ~10 years but users are understandably annoyed at this regression in Spotify's features and the misalignment between desktop and mobile for this basic function. This is in the context of video pushed as a default in the UI feeling like a cheap tactic to drive engagement, which doesn't align with Spotify's historical prioritisation of quality over clicks within it's subscriber-based model.
Hi @1163276985,
Thanks for joining the thread!
At the moment it's not possible to disable videos on podcasts on desktop, but there is a Live Idea on the topic, which you can vote for to show your support. Your feedback on this is important, thanks for sharing it here - we really appreciate it.
The Community is always here if something else comes up.
I am on limited mobile data. I am flabbergasted that you force me to stream a video and use up my data in order to listen to a podcast. I pay my subscription!
