How do I dislike songs/artists so they don't come up in play lists

I have a very clear 'like' button next to the song.  How do I dislike a song or an artist?  I don't mind it coming up once on the rotation, but why should I keep on having to listen to something that I dislike?  I guess I could always create my own playlists, but this takes a lot away from the platform.  I like discovering new music, but America's Top 50 and other playlists have a lot of music that I don't particularly enjoy, and don't care to hear again.

I swear there used to be a 'dislike' option in the user interface.

Thank you for your post. We're happy to help you with information about this.

You should be able to use our local hide function that is available on mobile. You need to go to the three dots menu on a song in a playlist and choose Hide this song.

You can also go to an artist's page and choose Don't play this form the three dot menu..

On desktop you have the options to hide songs in some of the Made for you playlists and the endless radio stations.

If you think your suggestion to have the option to hide songs on desktop will appeal to other users you can always create an idea on the relevant idea board. We always take new ideas and feedback into consideration to improve the app.

unfortunately absolutely no one at spotify is even listening to this or the other related threads.  I finally just .gave up and cancelled my account. 🤨

thanks Spotify.  You guys helped me make up my mind to finally get rid of this trash and inform everyone I know to avoid this cancer of music streaming service.  The inability to allow us to hide / dislike songs was the tipping point finally.

I have the same. I have some chill-out playlist, which brings good mood to me after work, and in this playlist there pops some so stupid songs, that makes my mood goes away. Or some poetic songs I like and then there comes some cynical trash... it's like if I opened my senses to something sensitive and then someone stick some ugly and**bleep** inside my open soul. That's beyond terrible.

The hide somg does not do anything useful at all. The same artists keep coming back to the release radar over and over again. spotify's useless for music discovery, where it once shined.

EXACTLY. 🤨  again: spotify is utterly useless for this and worse yet they only totally ignore our feedback, just like this forum thread right here.  it is in fact the reason I dumped it altogether.  even in pandora when you select a thumbs-down dislike... it absolutely never returns no matter what "new playlist" is being created for you.

They keep adding new features we dont want but never fix existing problems like this. On PC for years I still can't tell the algorithm I dont want to hear a certain song, have skipped it 100+ times yet it still gets added to the daily playlist everytime. No way to dislike it, infuriating.

You make a good point, but there myriad other ways to rate songs, movies etc. Rotten tomatoes would be long gone if "the industry" had control. But if this is the reason, shame on them!

Good insight about 'dislike' statistics.  I happen to know that I'm not the only person who hates.... a certain catchy but very cring song about a shooter in a school... the singer *knows* people turn that song off.  Anyway.  That aside, I'm still looking for the 'hide' function on my laptop.  Grumble grumble.
