try clearing the cache on settings that worked for me
This worked for me (old ipad1).
First, turned OFF 'Ask to Join Networks' in Main Settings/wifi
1. Deleted and redownloaded app but didnt open , just left it sitting
2. Main settings/general/reset network
3. Soft reset of ipad using home/power buttons
Without connecting to wifi in Main Settings, this appears to be important......
4. Go straight to Spotify icon, click, a wifi window appears while the main spotify window is open
5. Select and connect to your network within this window
ALL good, after 2 days of pain.
THANK YOU so much! I solved faster than light !!!

corner ??
change your DNS
DNS server 1 : 8.8.8.8
DNS server 2 : 8.8.4.4
those are google servers, when your free trial of norton is up it leaves their dns servers on and you wont be able to search or browse either
it's really annoying
I had this issue and tried all suggestions including the 'solution' listed here and also chatted to Spotify support but nothing worked.
In the end I fixed it by un-installing 'Lan Optimiser' that was installed on my work PC then restarted the PC and finally re-installed Spotify.
If you don't have 'Lan Optimiser' installed look similar software and try removing that. If your on a work PC and don't have permission to install/un-install software then ask who ever installed Spotify in the first place to try the above.
Spotify should have an option to run the desktop app in a different way like using a web frontend that still allows downloading songs to a local storage, this would solve this issue with a simple setting.
Ok cheers
