My Question or Issue

After waiting so long for Spotify to add the new 'feature' of showing me the new episodes of podcasts I follow, it finally happened via a randomly placed category on my homepage (seriously, why isn't it in the same location of the home page from day to day, or better yet, why isn't it part of 'Your Library'???). But I digress. I was fine with this addition until today, when the 'see all' button disappeared from my new episodes list. So, now I can only see the new episodes for eight of the dozens of podcasts that I follow. Alternatively, I can click through said dozens of podcasts in my library and manually find the ones that I have not listened to yet, but this is a silly expectation for something that I'm paying to use. PLEASE PUT THE 'SEE ALL' BUTTON BACK FOR NEW PODCAST EPISODES OR FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THINGS HOLY MAKE THE DESKTOP UI THE SAME AS MOBILE.

NEW RELATED PROBLEM: Today's new episodes not only do not have a see all button, but it's only showing six episodes out of the eight that came out today (see screenshot). The missing new episodes do show up in my 'good morning' section at the top of the home page.

I haven't gotten any responses to this in a while so I don't know if anyone is actually following this, but I have a new theory. The problem is not that the see all button is disappearing, it's that the app is not putting all of the new episodes into the new episodes section of the home page. Yesterday it only showed six out of eight, today it's only showing seven out of the eleven new episodes that were released today. Some of those not shown in the new episodes do show up at the top of the home page with blue dots, though. So when the button was disappearing, I think the app was only pulling eight of the new episodes, which if true would not require a see all button. I'm not sure if it's related or not, but when I initially opened the app, none of the episodes in the new episodes section were actually new. I had to click on the home button to reload the home page for it to update to today's new episodes.

Hi @Smathia1,

Thank you for your reply and insights about this.

Please take into account that the main purpose of the Home section is offering recommendations and selections, it is not a complete listing of your content. This is also one of the reasons why the section keeps moving to different rows, it's refreshed regularly and sorted based on recommendation algorithms.

However, we'll forward this to the right team as the app isn't sorting the episodes on that category of your Home screen.

With this in mind, the best way to check for new updates on your desktop app is via the section dedicated to podcasts that you can find on your Library, as all your followed podcasts will be added there.

Hope this clears things up.

I understand that the home page is primarily for recommendations, but without a dedicated section for new episodes, I have to rely on the home page for finding those new episodes without going through every show that I follow and hunting for new episodes and wasting my time.

I don't understand why such a basic and seemingly obvious necessary 'feature' that has been part of the mobile app for a long time has not been implemented in the desktop app, especially since Spotify started buying up popular podcasts and making them exclusives in order to become a podcast powerhouse. Please feel free to forward my frustrations onto whoever is making these decisions.

Hi @Smathia1,

Thank you for your reply.

We totally understand where you're coming from and, while that function is not available on the desktop app yet, other users have submitted an idea to have this feature implemented.

You can support this idea by adding your +VOTE and clicking on Subscribe in the three-dots menu in the top right corner next to the title. That'll make sure you stay up-to-date with any relevant updates about this. It’s also worth knowing that the higher the number of votes an idea gets, the more likely it is for the idea to be implemented.

Let us know if you have any questions.

Thank you for the suggestion, but I've been there already and contributed my vote. It has 1,299 votes currently and has been a topic since 2019, so at what point does Spotify actually listen to what people want and do something about it?

I haven't updated this in a while, but my 'new episodes' section seems to have disappeared permanently. So now I have no way of easily viewing the new episodes of podcasts on the desktop app (not that I had a reliable way to before, either). Seriously Spotify, why was this not something added on day one of adding podcasts to the app? I've been a premium user for many years and I'm seriously looking for other options for listening to podcasts because of this.

Hey @Smathia1,

Thank you for keeping in contact.

The “New episodes” section shows up in Home on the desktop app. As the content in the Home section updates regularly, if there aren't any or too few new episodes it's possible it may won't show.

It’s also possible that there are enough new episodes, but the home section is recommending something different at the moment.

We appreciate the time you took following the steps and sharing the feedback. Remember that a similar idea has already been suggested here and it's actually set as a Live idea - feel free to add your vote and subscribe to it! Any update will be posted in that thread.

Keep in mind that the section “What’s new” it’s available on mobile devices on the “bell” icon at the top of the Home screen.

Hope this helps. If anything else comes up, the Community will be here for you.
